It now looks like this. Only reflexive responses based on ever increasing lengths of stimulus repeats. It doesn’t seem to intelligent to not respond to a resulting stimulus and have to wait for it to repeat. After doing an unlearnt habit (i.e. trying to learn it) it seems reasonable to concentrate on the result that was obtained as expected or instead, but not so when doing a reflexive response. There is no expectation and you are open to whatever comes next and will react to it appropriately, thus it may not be stored in LTM immediately. Unless we use the policy that action habits always have their trigger stimulus stored. If we go back to action sequences and not store the trigger stimulus when learning until the result is obtained, and then only store the trigger and action habit pointer and start a new habit using the result as a trigger which only gets stored when it completes it may be possible to get it to work.
